MDG Progress in AngolaGoal One: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger Target one: Reduce by half the proportion of people living on less than one dollar a day by day. Target two: Reduce by half the proportion of people who suffer from hunger by 2015. In 2000, the proportion of population living under the poverty line (USD 1.70 in 2000) was estimated at 68%. Those living in extreme poverty, i.e. with below USD 0.75, represented 26% of the population. A new household survey (MICS) has been conducted and the preliminary results will be released early 2009. Then, it will be easy to appraise the evolution of the situation of poverty in the country. However, recently the Government has reiterated, in its Medium-Term Development Plan [2009-2013] to reduce by half the proportion of people who suffer from hunger by 2015. |
