Goal Five: Improve maternal health

Target one: Reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality rate by 2015.

• Maternal mortality ratio (number of deaths per 100,000 live births) has slightly decreased from 1,800 in 2000 to 1.700 in 2007. These numbers however mean that there is absolutely no progress in terms of reducing maternal mortality ratio since 1990.
• The proportion of births attended by skilled personnel is still very low: 1.8% in 2005.
