Goal Seven: Ensure environmental sustainability

Target one: Integrate the principles of sustainable development into contry policies and programmes; reverse loss of environmental resources.

The proportion of land covered by forest was estimated at 35% in 2004.

Target two: Reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water.

• Between 2001 to 2003, the percentage of the population with access to drinking water increased from 62% to 68.5%.
• In the same period, the percentage of the population with access to improved sanitation improved from 59% to 78%.
