The Deputy Country Director for Programme Checks Okavango River Project

Luanda , 29 October 2007 – The Deputy Country Director for Programme, Alfredo Teixeira, left Sunday for Namibia, to participate in a meeting that will analyse the regional project on Okavango river, taking place on October 29- 30, in Windhoek.

The meeting will analyse the study for a better use of the Okavango river, for a sustainable development of Angola, Botswana and Namibia.

The budget of this project, worth initially 3 million US dollars, will be revised at the meeting, as well as the working plan for its implementation.

The project over Okavango River, whose longest extension is in the Angolan territory, comprises the above mentioned countries and has the support of the United Nations and the Fund for Environment, besides national partnerships.

The project has already an office in Luanda and is expected to start with more elaborated studies, comprising data and information issues.
