MDG Implementation in Angola

Luanda, 13 November 2007 - During the week of November 5th through the 10th, the UNDP Angola office received Mr. Boubou Camara, former Deputy Country Director for Programme until last year, and now Senior Policy Advisor for the MDG implementation in the African Region.

During the Program Working Group Meeting which took place on Monday November 5 th, there were introductory remarks and warm welcoming made by Dr. Alfredo Teixeira, now Angolan UNDP Deputy Country Director for programme to Mr. Camara, who will stay with us for 5 days (Monday to Friday) to focus on MDG´s overall Planning for Angola.

 

Mr. Boubou  briefed all  members attending this weekly meeting about the purpose of his mission in Angola, which is to raise awareness and strengthen the partnership between the UN and the GoA to move on with the MDG appropriation and implementation so the country can stay ahead among other African countries; to discuss with the UNCT at the technical level all aspects and strategies in order to show progress with the same agenda, and to update us on how other countries in the region are performing with such indicators until 2015, in the global agenda. He will meet with government officials and other partner agencies during his visit.

According to Mr. Camara, there are some countries that are making progress and others that are not, but the most important is that all countries, including Angola, should joint efforts with all the stakehorders involved, including the civic society and the private sector, to make this a reality.

Mr Camara will share with the UNCT country team a brief report at the end of his visit.
