Government wants to reduce infant and maternal mortality rate

Luanda, 19 January 2011 – The Angolan Government intends to reduce at 50 percent the infant and maternal mortality rate until 2012.

This was said on Wednesday in Luanda by the health deputy minister, Carlos Alberto Masseca.

The official said so while addressing theme on “expansion of health services”, in the National Forum on the Eradication of Poverty, which was opened on Tuesday.

According to him, the government is committed to achieve the goals through the improvement of central and local health services, mainly in the districts of the country.

He said that the government plans to build new hospitals so as to achieve its goals.

 The event, which is happening in Luanda's Belas conference centre, under the motto”Fight against poverty, a commitment of the Angolan government”, is being promoted by the Civil Office of the Presidency of Republic.

The forum is being attended by MPs, government officials, governors and administrators.
