UNDP, Angola sign human rights aid accord

Luanda, 4 May 2012 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Angolan State Department for Human Rights Friday in Luanda signed an accord for assistance in human rights in Angola in the 2012 – 2013 period.

 

The document was signed by the Angolan secretary of State for Human Rights, António Bento Bembe, and the UNDP-Angola Resident Representative, Maria do Valle Ribeiro.

Estimated at Usd 1.1 million, the deal is intended to adjust and harmonise the national legal framework with the main international and regional instruments in terms of human rights.

Other purposes of the accord is to build up the technical and functional capacity of the Department and institutional partners, including the capacity of organisations of the civil society in order to influence and monitor the implementation and protection of human rights and associated matters.

 

 

The implementation of the project fully funded by the UNDP is managed by the Angolan State Department for Human Rights.

It has also the involvement of the courts, the Republic Attorney’s Office, Hombudsman, Ministries of Family and Women Promotion, Interior, Foreign Affairs and organisations of the civil society.
