UNDP-Angola guaranties continued support to Environment projects

Luanda, 13 March 2009 - Country Director, Gita Honwana Welch assured a continued UNDP support to the Angolan Environment Ministry in its projects with highlights to the one related to Okavango basin.

The UNDP official made this pledge on Thursday, March 12 in Luanda during a meeting with Environment Minister, Fátima Jardim, which focused on the Sustainable management of lands, Okavango river basin sustainable management, Biodiversity conservation, National Strategy on residues, Revision and Implementation of conventions.

The Government official revealed on the occasion, that Angola was preparing for a second national Forum on Environment by next November, ten years after the first one.

The minister further announced the creation of a task-force commission soon for the said event, and that her ministry is also to create new departments for specific areas such as Prevention and Assessment of Natural Impact, Environmental Technologies, among others, aimed at giving an impetus to the sector.
