Dr. Jorge Romero ends mission with UNDP-Angola

 

Luanda, 5 April 2009 - Do ctor Jorge Romero, concluded his 4-year term (2005-2009), March 31, as UNDP-Angola Global Fund (GF) Project Coordinator for the combat of VIH/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The Argentinean Doctor, Expert in Infantile Maternal Health and Management of International Programs, performed his vast experience in the effective work and establishment of cordial ties with national counterparts, like the Ministry of Health and national Institutes, including in situations of great challenge.

In a moving and heartfelt message at a most recent regular session of the National Coordination Mechanism for HIV/AIDS, Malaria and TB, Country Director, Gita Honwana, who was speaking on behalf of UNDP, honored Dr. Romero, recognizing his immense contribution to the establishment and running of the coordination unit at UNDP, and the way he become such an important part of the institution’s ability to support government efficiently in the last 4 years. She also thanked the Ministry of Health (MINSA) and civil society partners for their long-term partnership with UNDP.

In his turn, Health Minister, Mr. José de Castro Van-Dúnem, also paid tribute to Dr. Romero for the fantastic support, the hard work and friendship.

The Government official underlined the fact that Dr. Romero was instrumental, not only to establish the National Coordination Mechanism and have it running in full compliance with the GF rules, but also to facilitate contacts between GF and the GoA efficiently and to help establish and train the new Management Unit at MINSA, which will support the Ministry in its new function as the PR for Malaria.
