INFORMATION
& COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY UNIT
As technology becomes
ever more critical to the everyday operations of the Country Offices,
it is important that our ICT infrastructure is capable of supporting the
increasingly complex demands placed on it by our clients, partners and
headquarters.
The
ICT unit is committed to acquiring the necessary peopleware, hardware,
software and communication networks to provide the necessary ICT infrastructure
in line with OIST defined ICT standards to continually improve and support
the full range of ICT services we deliver. The role of ICT continues to
become more important as we work to ensure that UNDP Liberia Country Office
can cope with the technological changes and challenges that go alone.
There is an established UNDP Corporate ICT strategy which provides a framework
for ICT and the Country Office to work with, hence ensuring the ICT Unit
can provide the optimum service to staff and clients. The unit is split
into two specialized areas, with each providing a wide range of services
to the Country Office and other UN Agencies - ( eg. VSAT support, Desktop
Services, Wireless LAN etc.) The ICT Unit provides the following
Information Technology/Local
& Wide Area Networking
A small team of 2
staff provides professional operations and technical support service.
The team is experienced in a wide range of ICT technical issues and staff
care practices.
- Network:
Administer/Operate the CO Network to ensure the smooth running of all
servers, PCs, network attached printers and other Local Area and Wide
Area Networks (LAN/WAN) hardware and software with minimum downtime.
Handles server, network attached printers and other network hardware
and software installation/upgrades, de-installations, configurations,
testing and /or tuning and maintain proper record of configurations
& installation data as per change management policy and procedures.
- Applications:
Install software and other off-the-shelf applications on the network
and maintain proper record of configuration & installation data
as per change management policy and procedures. Also in collaboration
with the RIM Centre, implement new or upgraded applications or patches
i.e CO suite or other non-ERP applications in accordance with UNDP Standards
on time and within budget.
- Web: Maintain
and manage the Country Offices internet websites in collaboration
with the local content manager.
- HelpDesk:
Troubleshoot and resolve all network problems with supplementary support
from OIST helpdesk/ ISP. Record all support requests, resolutions, escalations
etc. using a problem tracking and resolutions tools. Manage creation/deletion
of network and mail user accounts and security attributes
- Users Training/Learning:
Conduct end users training to assist users in maximizing use of the
network systems, scanners, electronic data projectors, digital senders
etc.
- Security:
Plan and implement UNDPs network security policy and procedures
including building firewalls, managing host security, file permissions,
and file system integrity, and adding and deleting users and mail accounts.
Maintain security reporting
- Policy, Standards
and Procedures: Implement and ensure compliance with UNDPs
corporate ICT policies, standards and procedures.
- Technology:
Keep abreast of new computer technologies and development and identify
and propose areas of improvement towards the efficient and cost effective
utilization of the WAN/LAN services, applications, tools, etc in the
context of UNDPs ICT standards and strategy.
- Telecommunications:
Monitor all communications equipment and devices
(i.e routers, Outdoor Units, Antenna, Video Conferencing Equipment etc.
to ensure availability and operations with minimum downtime. Liaise
with local internet service provider, Xantic helpdesk and/or OIST helpdesk
for supplementary support. Advise senior management on rendition of
VSAT services to other UN Agencies and maintain records of the installation
and configurations of equipment used.
