The
Liberia Economic Review (LER) (2001-2002)
The Liberia Economic Review (LER) (2001-2002) is intended to contribute
to upstream policy dialogue in the area of Economic Policy Management.
Through regular publication of these Reviews, which analyzed performance
of the various sectors of the Liberian economy, opportunity is provided
to policy makers and the government to obtain an independent review
of national economic performance. This would enable policy makers
to rethink their policies, and redesign and/or adopt alternative policies.

Poverty
Profile of Liberia
This study defines
poverty as a multi-dimensional phenomena with economic, political,
social and cultural ramifications. It defines the poor as those living
under the national poverty line of US$1.00 per day per person. The
Report examines the root causes of poverty in Liberia, who are the
poor, and where they are found.

National
Human Development Report 1999
This Report focuses
on the theme: "Governance and Human Development in Liberia".
The Report reveals the overwhelming consensus that "bad governance"
is the root cause of Liberia's civil war, poverty and underdevelopment.
It provides a computation of the HDI, which placed Liberia second
to the least on the UNDP's global ranking of countries in respect
of their human development. It also examines the challenges facing
Liberia's human development drive. |
Development
Cooperation Report:1998-1999
The Report discusses trends in
aid flow to Liberia sectors, type and term. It also provides a historical
review of the economy, and the reasons for the dramatic decline in
aid flow to Liberia during the period. |
Economic
Review 2000 - 2001
This Review analyses
the trends and performance of the economy, and some key socio-economic
policies and some structural reform issues. It examines growth indicators,
revenue and expenditure, trade, financing and debt. The main thrust
of the Review however is on the informal sector, which has become
the main source of survival for the urban poor. |

The
Review examines socio-economic development in Liberia during the period.
It provides a comparative analysis of the economic trends between
pre- and post war ears, economic growth issues, and fiscal and monetary
polies. |
Lessons
of Post-Conflict Recovery in Liberia December 2000
The Report documents the Lessons Learned in the implementation of
projects designed to support Liberia's recovery following seven years
of devastating civil war (1989 - 1996). It reviews the experience
gain in the implementation of several micro-projects following seven
years of devastating civil war. the discussion focuses on issues of
governance, sustainability, capacity building, challenges and opportunities,
and partnership. |
