All UNDP programmes have been categorized under two broad pillars of the PRS, Democratic Governance, and Pro-Poor Economic Development. These two pillars are operationalized through four sub-components, 1) State Capacity and Institutional Strengthening and 2) Peace and Security Consolidation, which are clustered under Democratic Governance, as well as 3)Economic Policy and Management and 4) Sustainable Local Economic Recovery, which are clustered under Pro-Poor Economic Development. The objectives of the programme are twofold,
Underlying these objectives is an overarching goal of building national capacity that is the single most important priority for post-conflict reconstruction and development. The transition from six strategic areas to two thematic pillars was aimed at ensuring alignment of the CO’s programmes to both the Government priorities and UNDP’s corporate strategic plan. Strong emphasis has been placed on identifying opportunities for UN joint programming in key cross cutting themes as Gender, HIV and AIDS, Volunteerism, and Capacity Development. Joint efforts are guided by the shared goals of enhanced national ownership, advocacy for an enabling policy environment and partnerships for cross-cutting issues. |
